Join us for the 26th Annual HOTO Regatta

The 26th Annual Head of the Ohio Regatta will take place on Saturday, October 6th, 2012 on the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Head of the Ohio Regatta celebrates the beauty, majesty and energy of Pittsburgh's rivers. This day-long festival is one of Pittsburgh's premier outdoor events, featuring outdoor activities and entertainment for all ages.

One of the largest one-day regattas in the country, the Head of the Ohio attracts rowers of all abilities from juniors, to masters, to Olympians, as well as collegiate rowers from more than 75 colleges and universities. More than just a rowing race, the Head of the Ohio highlights all aspects of recreation along Pittsburgh's riverfront - both on and off the water.

The Head of the Ohio Regatta is hosted by Three Rivers Rowing Association

The Head of the Ohio and the Stewards Committee are fully supported by the TRRA Board of Directors.  The TRRA Board also provides direction and support to the staff to ensure the success of the event.

Our New Venue

The Head of the Ohio venue moved to Washington’s Landing in 2011.  Washington’s Landing is an island on the Allegheny River and home of the Three Rivers Rowing Lambert Boathouse.  It is also located near TRRA’s Millvale Boathouse.  The race will be run on the same section of the Allegheny River, but in reverse direction, starting near Point State Park and ending at Washington’s Landing.  All boats will be launching and returning to either the Lambert or Millvale Boathouse docks.

The start line is located just above Point State Park and the Ft Duquesne Bridge on the south shore of the Allegheny River, just about 500 meters from the confluence of the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio rivers in downtown Pittsburgh.  The actual start line will be marked by a tent located on the trail beside the river.  Boats will be funneled through the Ft Duquesne Bridge (I279) abutment in preparation to pass the start line.

The 2.6 mile course races upstream to just below the 40th Street Bridge.  The actual finish line is in front of a mooring cell located near the top of Washington’s Landing (formerly the start line) on the right descending bank of the island.  For the Head of the Ohio’s history, this section of the Allegheny River has been an excellent course, marked by rowing under nine bridges.  As the course passes along the south shore of the Allegheny River, spectators can view the race from the Three Rivers Heritage Trail.  In addition, viewing can take place from many of the city's bridges.
