RACE DEMOGRAPHICS The Rowing Market As a sport rooted in tradition, rowing is embraced by hundreds of colleges, high schools and communities across the country. Tens of thousands of college and high school students row, and continue to row after graduation, well into their adult and retirement years. Rowing is the sport of choice for hundreds of thousands of executives, professional and white-collar managers. It is truly a sport for a lifetime. The average household income for rowers is $103,000. Over 90% of rowers are college graduates and 60% also hold advanced degrees. The rowing community is also split fairly evenly between men (55%) and women (45%). In addition to being highly educated and highly compensated, rowers are adventurous, disciplined, competitive yet sophisticated individuals who share a love of the outdoors. Rowers expect the best from themselves and others. Though demanding, rowers are also a very loyal group and supportive of sponsors involved in the sport.
Many rowers are multi sport enthusiasts and are involved in many other sports like cross-country and downhill skiing, mountain biking and cycling, swimming and running. Head of the Ohio Demographics The Regatta attracts more than 2,000 rowers with an equal number of spectators each year. Eighty percent of the participants come from the Mid-Atlantic region.
Spectators Each year thousands of friends and family members of the rowers competing turn out to cheer for their favorite rowers. They are joined by local residents and business leaders, city officials, alumni from the schools competing and others who look forward to being a part of this unique Pittsburgh event accentuating the beauty of our magnificent, rejuvenated rivers. |
