Line the banks during the annual Lottie McAlice Women’s Junior 1x Race, named for Lottie McAlice who - in 1870 - at the age of 16 beat Maggie Lew in a one-mile sculling contest on the Monongahela River. In honor of these first female rowers and to celebrate the renewal of our rivers, the Three Rivers Rowing Association established the Lottie McAlice Race as part of the Head of the Ohio Regatta. The race is open to female rowers aged 14-18. A specially designed memento will be presented to the winner. See the next generation of Olympic hopefuls as we crown this year's outstanding female rower. The total race distance will be about 700 meters. The finish line will be the same as the head race finish line. The starting line will be the Roberto Clemente (6th Street) Bridge, upstream from the finish line. Eligibility is open to experienced women’s junior singles. Registration for the Lottie McAlice Race will be directly through Regatta Central. Entries for the race will be limited to not more than twelve boats to be selected by the LOC with consideration on a first-come, first-served basis. Entries will be seeded according to a best time reported over 1,000 meters. From a floating start, not more than four boats will row from a special starting line to the finish line. All boats must have a bow marker (1 through 12) as assigned. All competitors must be in the designated area at the start 15 minutes before the start of the race. There will be no more than three flights of four boats. The winner will be determined by the fastest time. This is an ‘exhibition race’ and no protests will be allowed.
